[edit] May 29, 2008
What a great turn out! We had a total of twelve people who participated in the workshop. The participants brought their own laptops and/or used the iMacs provided. The focus of the workshop was “How to create New Media by re purposing your old PowerPoint’s and using Keynote. ” We also touched on the other tools provided on your MAC such as iPhoto and iTunes. This was an open forum with all participants exchanging thoughts and ideas. What synergy!
- One of the outcomes of the meeting was to start a “Wiki” …so here it is. If you have any thoughts or ideas please contribute. That's what a Wiki is all about.
- We ended the meeting with Mark Basse giving a tour of the TV studio.
- Remember, you can access great tutorials and tips within most MAC applications, in software such as Keynote, iPhoto, iWorks, iMovie, iTunes, and more. Just look under the HELP menu.
- Lyn Noble sent us an email regarding the discussion we had on "screen captures."

Remember, “Herd those Cats” to keep organized as you create your New Media Project. We'll be posting and sending out emails for the next meeting scheduled for next month. See you there.

[edit] Launchbar
For many Mac users, Launchbar is the one utility they could not live without. It makes life faster, easier, smoother. Users, with a few keystrokes, can launch applications, go to particular Web sites, look up words in the dictionary, send e-mails. Mouse use goes way down and Dock use is almost eliminated. Launchbar's main competitor is Quicksilver. It's free but no longer being actively developed; it does, however, have a users' group. Launchbar costs $20 and is still being refined and improved. The developer is available to answer questions and the forum is a great place to ask questions and get good advice from other Launchbar users.
[edit] Mac science
Apple has a fascinating Web site that offers all kinds of hints, tutorials, and ideas for using Mac software in the sciences. The link here is to the productivity lab but there's lots more to see by clicking on the tabs.
